Water Witching is the practice of finding and treating water. It's a nessecary skill forgotten by many in the modern age.

Solar Stills are a useful distillation method for places with very little water.

Steps:

Dig a three foot deep pit

put anything with moisture into the pit

Place collection bowl in center

Cover pit with clear tarp

Water will collect and be distilled by the sun, it will take a long time not yeild much but can make a big difference in a survival situation.

Rainwater Collection

Using a tarp to collect rainwater on a large surface area is the ideal way to collect rainwater, simply angle it correctly to pour into a bucket. Unlike Solar distilled water rainwater must be treated before consumption.

Salt Water

Salt water is tricky as it cannot be digested without treatment due to bacteria but also due to salt content. Our bodies can't handle the amount of salt in it. Getting rid of bacteria can be done the same way as with freshwater but it will not remove the salt, it must be distilled for that. Ways to do this include collecting the condensation during boiling or Solar Stills. both are useful ways to get freshwater out of salt water in a survival situation but don't yeild much.

How to collect fresh water from salt water by boiling:

"Fill your cooking pot with seawater;

Insert one end of the cooling tube into the pot above the water level;

Secure the pot with a lid;

Place the other end of the tube in the second container;

Place the water-filled container on a fire or similar heat source;

Heat the pot until the water starts to boil;

As the water boils, so the vapor travels through the tube, where it cools and condenses; This fresh water will collect in your second container." - Primalsurvivor.net

Finding Water

The best way to find water will depend on where you are in the world.

Travelling parralel to a mountainside

this can be useful if you are in the mountains, there are tipically streams on a mountainside, following these up parralel to the mountain can lead you to a pond or lake.

Bees

Bees never go far from water so if you see bees you must be 3-5 miles from water.

Finches

Finches are another animal that doesnt go far from water. Another reason knowing your birds is a good idea, but I love birdwatching so I might be a bit biased.
